You can certainly combine door access and photo identification in one card. There are different options to make this work.

1. Printable PVC access cards can be run right through your ID card printer.
2. You can also print on an adhesive plastic card and adhere it to your existing clamshell proximity card.

Both are great options to combine door access with your photo ID card, so you don’t have to carry multiple cards.

Several factors determine which ID card printer will work best for your organization. To pair you with the perfect printer, below are the main questions we urge customers to consider:

• How many cards do you plan to print each year?
• Will the cards be printed on one side or both sides?
• Do you need special security features added to the card?
• Do you want your badges to last longer by adding a laminate on top of the card?
• Finally, what is your budget? Virtually anything is possible!

As long as your ID card printer is cleaned regularly (we recommend cleaning with every ribbon change) and well-maintained, you can expect your printer to last 7–10 years. Most ID printers are able to run a diagnostic test, which will let you know if the printer needs to be cleaned between ribbon changes or if your printer ribbon has a small number of prints left.

Think of cleaning your printer like changing the oil in your car. The better you take care of it, the longer its life. To give you added peace-of-mind, you can also extend the warranty on your ID card printer by adding a printer protection bundle or extended warranty to your ID Maker™ system order.

On average the cost for a single-sided ID badge is about $0.61 and the average cost of a dual-sided card is around $0.98. This cost includes ALL consumables needed to create your IDs.

The number of printer ribbons you’ll need depends on the number of cards you plan
to print and whether they are single- or dual-sided ID cards.

A 250 print ribbon will yield 250 single-sided ID cards. You can find information about the number of prints each ribbon is good for in the product title and on the ribbon’s product information page.

There are several ways to find this information:

1. Some printers have a sticker on the inside that tells you which supplies to get.
2. You can visit the ID Card Printer Supplies page and use our supply finder. Just answer a few simple questions about your printer.
3. Visit the printer support page, click on your printer, and this will take you to a list of all the supplies you need.

You have a couple of different options if you’d like to use your single-sided ID
card printer to print dual-sided ID badges. If the back of all ID badges will be the same, your first option is to take
time to pre-print the back side of your ID cards in advance and then go back to
print the front side at a later date. This option does save you money in the
short term, but keep in mind that the more contact you have with the ID card,
the more that the elements added to the card from your fingers (dirt, dust, oil,
lint) will wear on the print head and the printer itself. When using a single-sided printer to print dual-sided ID badges, we highly recommend cleaning the printer more often than you typically would.

A second option to create dual-sided badges with your single-sided printer is
to upgrade your IDville printer with a field upgrade ribbon that will convert your printer to a dual-sided printer. This is a one-time purchase that will allow you to print dual-sided ID badges for the remainder of your printer’s lifespan. Only available on some models.

PVC plastic ID cards don’t come with a hole pre-punched in them. All ID cards that are printed with our PVC card printers must print to a card that has no holes in it and is flat and smooth over the entire face of the card. If you try to print to an ID that has a hole in it you will severely damage your printer.

The hole or slot will need to be punched in the card after printing, or we offer ID badge accessories you can use without punching holes in your cards.

Depending on your organization’s needs, the look of your ID badge can vary. Most employee and student IDs have the cardholder’s photo for visual security along with name and position within the organization.

Our ID Maker™ software is extremely intuitive, so adding color, font styling, and your logo is quick and easy. The more you customize your ID badges, the more difficult it will be to fraudulently duplicate your unique ID badges.

No. There is no limit to the number of student or personnel records you can store in the IDMaker™ 3.0 Essential, Professional, or Enterprise databases.

You absolutely can use your logo, or any other artwork that you’d like on your ID badge. You can import any logos or images that you have saved to your computer. Once your logo or artwork is imported into the software, you can then crop and drag and drop images to appear anywhere you want them on your card.
